Laos registered a trade deficit of 17 million U.S. dollars in April, according to the Lao Trade Portal website.

The total value of trade in April amounted to 947 million dollars, of which 465 million dollars were exports and 482 million dollars were imports, said a report issued on Tuesday from the Lao Trade Portal website.

Laos' main export products included mixed gold and bullion, salts, paper and paper products, gold ore, iron ore, pulp and paper scrap, cassava, bananas and beverages.

The country's main imports included diesel, land vehicles, mechanical equipment, gasoline, steel and steel products, beverages, wood pulp and paper waste, plastic products, electrical appliances and electrical equipment, and auto parts.

China remained the top export destination for Laos, followed by Vietnam and Thailand, while the major source countries for Laos' imports were Thailand, China and Vietnam, said the report.
